First Tuesday Alliance is one part of reviving the spirit of democracy by engaging in both theoretical and practical civic education.We meet once a month to talk, learn, and act. We engage with each other, our local communities, and the wider world.

We’re starting small, gathering in living rooms with friends, colleagues, and neighbors. We’re figuring things out as we go.

Our lives are connected. Our choices affect others; theirs affect us. Every society needs a process to manage differences. That process—whatever shape it takes—is politics. 

Democracy is distinctive because it gives everyone a voice. Democratic politics means making decisions together. That does not mean we’ll always agree; it does, though, demand that we respect its outcomes.

Democracy does more than resolve differences. Its practice transforms us. Democracy requires humility; democracy requires that we accept that others might be right; and democracy requires that we listen.

The habits that sustain democracy don’t just make society work better; they make us better.
